To know how to ease or eliminate stress, you first need to know what stress is and what creates it.
Yes, you certainly know what it feels like, and I am sure you can think of many things in your life that cause you to feel it. But knowing those things has not changed it for you – so we need to go more basic than that.
So what is stress?
The word stress comes from Middle English destresse, which was derived via Old French from the Latin stringere which means “to draw tight.”
In mechanics, stress is the measure of the internal forces all the particles in an object exert on each other. These internal forces create a strain and pressure throughout the object. So stress is a strain and pressure within something caused by drawing things tightly together in such a way that they all press against each other.
In a person, it is the feeling of the strain and pressure of the parts drawn tight together in such a way as they all push against each other that we call STRESS.
So what are these parts that are drawn tight together?
They are all the things that you are tightly holding in on yourself in an attempt to either make them happen or make them not happen! You are using your own mental and emotional energy to force these things to happen or not happen while at the same time using your mental and emotional energy to hold them tightly in place.
Constantly thinking “I’ve got to get this done, I’ve got to get this done” with a lot of emotion in order to force yourself to work on it draws all your energy in tightly on yourself. The energy cannot just flow toward doing your work it… is also pressing against itself internally trying to force you to work. This creates internal stress.
So, one best way to ease or eliminate the stress in your life it to Just Let Go! Let go of trying to force things to happen or not happen. Take a deep breath and while exhaling just let go of all those things.
This does not mean to not continue to work toward your goals or the completion of your projects. It means to let go of holding them in tightly and trying to force them to happen. Free up the energy being exerted to tell you what you must do and not do and use all your energy towards the act of achieving your goals instead. You will complete them in the same or less amount of time without all the strain and pressure (STRESS) of trying to force them to happen.
